The main cables are compacted, cable bands are attached, and suspenders are hung. The suspenders support the weight of the stiffening trusses, floor steel, concrete, and finally, the traffic for which the bridge was built. Once the roadway has been completed, the cables are wrapped with a protective layer of steel.
