The John A. Roebling's Sons company and its employees played an important
role in the lives of many, if not all, Americans with thier power to make
the impossible, possible and the impractical, practical.
This web site tells the story of one man from Prussia and his family, the
people who worked for them, and the communities they built. The archive
is mostly Primary Source material and is divided into four sections.
For an introduction to the Company, check out The Roebling Story a history published by
the company on its Centennial Anniversery. Then check out General History of the Roebling Company for more
on the
company and the family that built it.
For an introduction to some of the people who worked at the company,
please visit Now you're Set
for Life, Oral Histories of the John A. Roebling's Sons
Company. In thirteen narratives, you will hear from former Roebling
workers, in their own words, what it was like to be a part of the Roebling
enterprise. After that, learn more about how the company was part of the
community after working hours were over in The Social
History of the Roebling Company
Ever wondered who built the Brooklyn Bridge? That would be the Roebling Bridge Division. Thought about where
your Slinkey came from lately? Well, that and other Wire and Wire Rope Products came from Roebling,
too. Thanks to them, you'll never have to know how many stairs you have to
climb to get to the
top of the Empire State building, because they made wire for the
elevators.
